Throughout a distinguished career, Troy Wayne Poteete dedicated his life to the Cherokee Nation through public service, historic preservation and the advancement of tribal sovereignty. Poteete served on the Council of the Cherokee Nation, the Cherokee Nation Supreme Court and the Arkansas Riverbed Authority, contributing to all three branches of Cherokee government. As a founding member and executive director of the National Trail of Tears Association, he also devoted decades to preserving historic sites and expanding public understanding of Cherokee history. A respected historian, educator and storyteller, Poteete shared his knowledge with audiences across the country. His legacy of leadership and wisdom lives on in the generations he inspired and the family he loved.
