The Trust Litigation Team represents a collaboration of lawyers, experts, and citizens who united to develop and prosecute the Cherokee Nation’s case against the United States for its longstanding breach of trust in its mishandling of the Nation’s assets. The Cherokee Nation Attorney General’s Office provided steadfast leadership throughout the case. The Indian and Environmental Law Group, Van Ness Feldman, and Askman Law Firm championed Cherokee Nation’s case in court. An $80 million settlement — the largest in our tribe’s history — will be invested into our judicial system so that we may protect our people, fight for victims and promote public safety on the Cherokee Nation Reservation.
