Patsy Edgar

Individual, Cherokee National Community Leadership Award

As an educator and tax expert, Patsy Edgar’s commitment to the preservation of Cherokee history and culture spans decades. Edgar was founding president of the Georgia Trail of Tears Association chapter and served for 11 years on the board of the original Cherokee National Historical Society. She has also served on the At-Large Advisory Committee and numerous other boards supporting Cherokee communities. During a 30-year career with the Internal Revenue Service, Edgar built outreach efforts for Native communities promoting the Earned Income Tax Credit, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and asset-building programs. Those efforts returned more than $73 million to Native communities in a single tax season. She continues advocating for Cherokee history, culture and community connection.
