An ancestral connection to Southeastern Woodland designs is evident in all of David Pruitt’s creations. A Cherokee clay artist, Pruitt combines ancient traditions with contemporary artistic expression and finds inspiration in Cherokee National Treasures and master potters. With limited instruction beyond a handful of pottery classes but a commitment to excellence, he has produced an impressive body of work, receiving numerous recognitions from art competitions, galleries and markets. Pruitt previously worked as a master craftsman in wood and retired after 36 years with Cherokee Nation before pursuing his art full time. His work reflects traditional knowledge learned in his youth and a lifelong connection to Cherokee heritage.
