Prior to being appointed attorney general of the Cherokee Nation in 2023, Chad Harsha served as secretary of natural resources for the Cherokee Nation, assistant attorney general and general counsel. As attorney general, Harsha serves as the primary legal adviser to the Cherokee Nation and its entities and oversees litigation involving treaty rights, reservation status and other issues affecting the Nation. He has successfully led compact negotiations with the state of Oklahoma, asserted the treaty rights of the Cherokee Nation to federal agencies and finalized the largest settlement in Cherokee Nation history. Harsha holds a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University and a law degree from the University of Tulsa.
